Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe. Egypt

CEDARE was established in 1992 as an international inter-governmental organization with diplomatic status, in response to a call for a regional centre of excellence, and upon the initiative of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD). CEDARE works best as a "force multiplier". Its mission is to provide leadership and advocate sound governance for environmental protection, through building human resources and institutional capacity, advancing applied research and environmentally friendly technologies and acting as a catalyst to enhance collaborative action.

CEDARE has currently being selected by the League of Arab states to be a member of the steering committee of the Arab Region Round table for Sustainable consumption and production. Within the framework of the steering committee, CEDARE is cooperating in developing the Arab Region Green Economy Initiative. In addition, CEDARE is also member of the Steering Committee of the Horizon 2020 initiative for de-pollution of the Mediterranean region.

CEDARE's Board of Trustees combines members from the Arab and Mediterranean region, as well as Europe (Spain and Germany). This has enabled CEDARE to establish solid partnerships with several international and regional organizations. A number of reputable national, regional, and international institutions selected CEDARE to cooperate in the implementation of their activities; at the international, regional and national level.
