Rich discussions in the Workshop at the Lebanese Industrial Research Institute
As BAT4MED project comes to a close, the project results are being disseminated in other Arab countries of the Mediterranean in a series of workshops. After successful completion of the first workshop in Palestine, the following workshop was in Beirut, Lebanon, held on July 8th, 2013. The workshop was organized by the Center for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in cooperation with the Lebanese National Cleaner Production Center (LCPC) and held at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI).
Stakeholders from industry, academia, NGOs, and public sector gathered to learn about BAT4MED project activities and outcomes and to discuss means of incorporating results in policies, plans and program that address their Cleaner Production concerns and priorities.
A rich discussion took place among the attendees expressing interest in seeking means to implement IPPC by capitalizing on the CP efforts and programs already taking place in Lebanon. Several ideas to ensure sustainability of similar projects in Lebanon were raised such as identifying BATs that can be subject to financial incentives from the government, such as custom duties exemption.
The next countries to be visited are Algeria and Libya.
